Building Productive Workplaces: Managing Internal Complaints
HR Advantage has conducted reserach into how business deals with workplace conflict. This covered public and private sector employers from Queensland, the ACT and Victoria and explored the strategies used to manage workplace conflict.
We found that businesses have in place relevant policy and procedures and are generally satisfied with them. They are regularly reviewed and improved.
The challenge that emerged was ensuring that managers and human resource specialists were skilled and supported in productively resolving conflict.
Organisational cultures should ensure employees are well informed and feel able to raise concerns and issues without fear of retribution. To be effective managers must feel able to deal with issues and concerns when they arise. In such a culture inappropriate management and workforce behaviours, interpersonal conflicts and performance concerns will be addressed promptly with courage, diplomacy and tact.
